Google has begun rolling out a refreshed design for its Gemini web client, giving the interface a cleaner appearance and introducing new features aimed at improving organisation and usability. The update follows similar changes made to the Android and iOS versions last month and reflects Google’s broader effort to present a unified, modern look across its AI platforms. The redesign, first reported by 9to5Google, is now appearing for users on gemini.google.com, offering subtle but noticeable refinements intended to align Gemini more closely with Google’s evolving AI branding.

A friendlier greeting and updated dark mode

One of the first updates users will see is a new greeting displayed at the top of the interface. The previous “Hello” has been replaced with a more informal “Hi,” accompanied by the Gemini spark icon. Although minor, the change contributes to a more welcoming and conversational feel, consistent with Google’s attempts to make its AI tools more approachable.

The dark mode experience has also been altered. Gemini’s homepage background, previously a dark grey shade, has shifted to pure black. This creates a higher-contrast aesthetic and is particularly beneficial for OLED displays, where true black backgrounds can reduce power usage. Despite this deeper background tone, the prompt box and navigation rail retain their lighter grey colouring, resulting in a layered visual structure that distinguishes key interface areas. The prompt box has undergone additional refinement. Google has removed its faint outline, simplifying its appearance, while the suggestion “pills” beneath it have been repositioned and centred to provide a tidier layout.

‘My Stuff’ introduces improved organisation

Alongside the visual changes, Google has added a new organisational tool within the navigation drawer. The “My Stuff” section serves as a central hub for user-generated content, including images, videos, and Canvas creations. This addition is intended to make it easier for users to locate past output without having to browse lengthy chat histories or sift through archived conversations. The hub reflects a broader shift towards treating Gemini not only as a conversational AI tool but also as a creative workspace. By consolidating content in one place, Google is hoping to streamline workflows for users who regularly produce or iterate on images, designs, or media.

Enhanced chat controls for easier management

Google has also introduced more intuitive controls for managing conversations. Users can now click on the chat title displayed at the top of any conversation to open a new dropdown menu. This menu provides quick access to key actions such as Share, Pin, Rename, and Delete, features that were previously only available via the sidebar. The addition is designed to reduce the number of steps required to manage individual chat threads and offers a more practical approach to keeping conversations organised, particularly for users who maintain multiple active sessions at once.

Direct access to Google Photos

Although not part of the visual redesign, the update coincides with another recently added feature: direct integration with Google Photos. A Google Photos picker now appears within the “plus” menu in the prompt box. This allows users to pull images directly from their photo library for analysis or creative use, without needing to download and re-upload files manually. For users conducting image-related tasks—such as editing, object identification, or creative generation—the integration offers a significant improvement in convenience and workflow efficiency.

A gradual rollout with widespread availability

The updated design has been gradually introduced over recent weeks, but it now appears to be reaching a broader rollout. Early user feedback suggests that the redesign brings the web version of Gemini more in line with the polished experience offered on mobile devices. While the changes are primarily aesthetic, they signal Google’s intention to deliver a more cohesive and streamlined interface across platforms, reinforcing Gemini’s role in the company’s expanding AI ecosystem.

The redesign is expected to continue evolving as Google refines its AI tools and expands functionality across its web and mobile clients. For now, the update marks a meaningful step towards a more modern, organised, and user-friendly Gemini experience.
